Some Beginner Hints For The Novice Fisherman or Fisherwoman

Fishing For Beginners

Perhaps you have been on a few fishing trips with some borrowed equipment and have absolutely fallen in love with it. Great! Now you need to get yourself set up with your own fishing gear but first you want to educate yourself with the basics.

Start off with reading some great fishing books. Try to stick with those that are slated more towards the novice fisherman. Otherwise you could end up buying a lot of equipment when you are first starting out that just won’t be used enough to justify the cost.

There are a couple of things you need to consider. How often are you going to be able to get out to enjoy your new found sport, and what is available to you most conveniently in your area. If you have to travel 50 miles to get in a good day of fishing that’s fine. If you have to travel 100 miles however, then naturally you are going to be much more limited in the time you can spend enjoying this. You need to determine that you are going to get enough use of your equipment to justify the costs.

The next thing you need to determine is what kind of fishing are you going to be doing? Are you going to be doing fly fishing? That’s just one example. Then what kind of fish are you going to be fishing for the majority of the time? Will it be bass, trout, perch or one of the many other kinds? Each of these will demand the need for certain items that will give you the edge on catching that one that didn’t get away.

Finally make a list of the basics you are going to need and set a budget for your start up costs in your fishing gear. Then put the word out that for future gifts you would sure appreciate some contributions to your new found hobby
